Fall Retreat

Date: November 13-15, 2020
Location: Camp Berea, Lyman ME
Purpose: High School Overnight Retreat
Means of Transportation: TBD (we are currently evaluating if families would prefer travel their teens to Maine and back independently instead of a group bus/van)
Start Time: Friday, November 13, 3:30 PM
End Time: Sunday, November 15, approximately 5:00 PM.

In November, Life Teen will be having it’s first overnight retreat. This is a great opportunity for teens to grow in Christ and with one another. The group will spend the weekend at Camp Berea in Lyman, Maine, leaving Friday afternoon and arriving back at around 5:00 PM. Overnight retreats break free of the church classroom setting making space for lot’s of fun and personal development. The retreat will include praise and worship music, great speakers, Adoration, games, and lots of free time with friends. Space will be limited to ensure a safe and socially distant retreat, please sign up soon! This retreat is not part of of the confirmation program and is open to all high school students.

Pandemic Parameters: The property at Camp Berea is spacious and will allow for social distancing. The ideal retreat size will be 15-20 teens. The camp has also provided a guide to their COVID-19 adjustments. Please note, this guide was published prior to Massachusetts being added to the Maine safe state exemption list. Our group will be the only group on the property and all facilities will be properly cleaned before our visit.

  • Transportation: If families would prefer to transport teens independently to Camp Berea and back to reduce social distancing risk, this would not be a problem. There is also plenty of parking available for teens that drive and would prefer to bring their own vehicle. The drive to Lyman, ME is approximately 2 hours. Unless all families opt to drive themselves, the parish would plan to have a van/bus for transportation depending on the group size.
  • Housing: Dormitory style housing will be used on retreat. Boys and girls will have separate dorms. All dorms will have windows and fans. Traditionally, dorm assignments are based on grade but will be assigned strategically for this retreat to incorporate spacing.
  • Dining: Dining will have table seating limits. Meals will be served cafeteria style by the Berea staff and all guests must wear a mask while going through the food line. Masks are not required while sitting and eating but should be worn when getting up and walking around in the Dining Hall. Plates, bowls, silverware, condiments, etc. will be handed out by the Berea staff as well to eliminate cross contamination as much as possible. The parish will have access appliances to store and heat additional food brought for special dietary needs or and should be able to do this with anyone that would prefer to bring their own foods.
